Argenterie de Turenne - Paris Shopping

Inside, you'll find old-fashioned gentility and masses of silver, both secondhand sterling and plated, much of it made in France during the 19th and early 20th centuries. The array of trays, water pitchers, cutlery, napkin rings, tumblers, and punchbowls is staggering, but what many visitors find amazing is that congenially battered, silver-plated forks and spoons are sold by weight, at the rate of 60€ ($78) per kilo (about 2 lbs.), although most clients prefer to buy forks, knives, and spoons piecemeal, from 5€ ($6.50) each. The store lies within the Marais, a short walk from place des Vosges, on a block that's lined with purveyors of other old-fashioned grace notes that include antique glassware and porcelain. Open Tuesday to Saturday 10:30am to 7pm.
